Former Downtown Honolulu Walmart Is Sold

by One Pacific Realty Inc

The former Walmart building on South King Street in downtown Honolulu has been sold to local developer Christine Camp. An Avalon Development subsidiary recently closed the deal, purchasing the 87,000-square-foot space and its accompanying parking structure with 454 stalls for a cool $38.25 million.

This news comes after years of speculation about the building's future, following Walmart's closure. While initial rumors suggested another large retailer might take its place, Avalon's purchase indicates a different path forward.

Details on Avalon's plans for the property remain under wraps, but the developer has a history of successful projects in Honolulu, known for focusing on mixed-use developments.

A few blocks away Camp is hard at work on the recently announced MODEA, the transformed former Davis Pacific Center now slated for 352 residential condos by late 2025.

The future use of this prime downtown location is sure to spark conversation and interest among residents and businesses alike. With Avalon's track record and the ongoing revitalization efforts in downtown Honolulu, one thing's for certain: the former Walmart building is poised for an exciting transformation.
