Kung Hee Fat Choy!

by One Pacific Realty Inc

In Hawaii, we say "Kung Hee Fat Choy," which is a variation of the Cantonese greeting "Kung Hei Fat Choi" meaning "wishing you great happiness and prosperity." This year the Year of the Rabbit falls on Sunday, Jauary 22nd. For good luck, the most popular food during this time is a traditional Chinese steamed pudding called gau. This sweet, sticky rice pudding is made out of brown sugar and glutinous rice flour, often wrapped in ti leaves and steamed for hours. Lion dancing which is said to ward off evil spirits is another popular tradition, while feeding the lion money in the form of dollar bills will bring good luck. Chinese New Year in Hawaii is filled with great food and traditions.
